What is focus? According to Merriam Webster focus is:
“a point at which rays of light, heat, or sound meet ” and/or “the point at which an image is formed by a mirror, a lens, etc.”
From a dream perspective, focus is the point which opens the gateway to creativity. While distraction scatters your energy preventing focus.
How can you apply these definitions to your own ability or inability to focus?
I define the point where my interests, energy and passions collide as “the zone”. It’s the moment where your mind is set free to create, to think, to dream and to implement ideas. I find it harder to get into “the zone” when I’m implementing dreams. Have you been there?
I start to think about all those plans to carry out, goals to meet, performance metrics to keep – and it’s overwhelming. Then dread creeps in and my brain shuts off – repeating over and over again “All work and no play makes Mary a dull girl”…
OK a bit dramatic I admit but that’s how it feels sometimes when I’m trying way too hard to get into “the zone” or expecting “the zone” to flip on like my office lights…
So why can’t dream implementation and finding your zone be fun I ask?It can be! It has to be! Because one thing failure has taught me is that life is too short to take yourself too seriously. So let’s have some fun and turn to God’s cool creates to help BOTH of us get into the zone today.
While Zebras appear to all look the same they each have a stripe patter as unique as a human fingerprint. You are unique and so is your zone. What quirky thing makes you laugh so hard that you nearly spit food out of your mouth? Go there.
Otters have a knack for lying on their backs in a posture of serenity like this little guy. When are you most serene? Where are you most serene? What does serenity look like when you’re in “the zone”?
The nightingale is such a small bird with a powerful and beautiful song which has inspired many poets. Which song calms you and makes you smile? What is it about your dream that keeps you going? Keeps your singing? Reflect on that.
While elephants are the largest animals that live on land their most impressive feature is that they smell, drink, eat, and wash themselves with their trunks. As they say necessity is the mother of invention. What can you do with what you have to get in “the zone” today?
